LAHORE: Nationwide celebrations of Pakistan Day has commenced across the country as a remembrance of the resolution ‘Lahore Resolution’ for an independent country passed on March 23, 1940.
The adoption of the first constitution of Pakistan during the transition of the Dominion of Pakistan to the Islamic Republic of Pakistan on March 23, 1956 was also occurred making Pakistan the world’s first Islamic republic.
The day is a national holiday in Pakistan while the major celebration of parades performed by the armed forces is underway in Islamabad.
President of Pakistan Mamnoon Hussain, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and top military leadership comprising of Army, Navy and Air Force chiefs are present in the event.
The country’s president would confer national awards and medals on the awardees at the Presidency while wreaths will be laid at the mausoleums of Muhammad Iqbal and Muhammad Ali Jinnah.
