Karachi: Eight years down the road since South Africa chased down the world’s highest One-Day International (ODI) target, the world record is still fresh in minds of millions of cricket lovers.
It was March 12 when the proteas, who are also known as chokers, successfully chased 434 runs target against the five-time world champions Australia at New Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg..
Herschelle Gibbs, the legendary South African batsman, was the man, who played the key 175 runs inning and made the target possible for the host nation while proteas’ then skipper Graeme Smith hit 90.
The match had witnessed various memorable moments with the bat including Kangaroos skipper Ricky Ponting’s 164 runs before Gibbs match winning inning.
It was definitely a bad day for bowlers as Australian pacer Mick Lewis gave worst 113 runs his 10 overs while one of the best Proteas bowler Makhaya Ntini got 80 runs in his nine overs.
