ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan’s Foreign Office (FO) has made an official announcement for the appointment of new high commissioner, Abdul Basit, to India on Monday.
The Pakistan’s higher authorities have approved the appointment of Abdul Basit for the post of High Commissioner to India, FO spokesperson said.
Abdul Basit is a renowned diplomat due to its prominent abilities as currently he is working on the post of Pakistani Ambassador to Germany while he also performed duties as FO spokesperson in past.
The 55-year-old diplomat was earlier tipped to take charge of Foreign Secretary but afterward the government had changed its mind and is likely to appoint Current Foreign Office Spokesperson and Additional Foreign Secretary Aizaz Chaudhry on the post, sources said.
Abdul Basit’s career; an overview:
Basit had earlier served as the Director General/Foreign Office spokesperson between 2008-2009, and as Additional Secretary (Europe)/Foreign Office Spokesman between 2009-2012.
Abbas, a career diplomat who had earlier served as Counsellor (political) at the Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi, is likely to replace Basit as envoy to Germany.
He had also served as the Director of the Kashmir Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Islamabad and was the Director General of the South Asia division.
