KABUL – Afghan Taliban have captured a US military sniffer dog called “Colonel”, foreign media reported.
There was a dog went missing in a mission in December, ISAF officials confirmed. The Taliban tweeted the video of the same dog they claimed to have captured from US military during a night raid in Laghman in Eastern Afghanistan.
The BBC reporter David Loyn in Kabul informed about the dog, “Looking rather mournful, on a lead being held by a long-haired Taliban fighter, the small reddish-brown dog was paraded for a Taliban cameraman”.
The dog, when captured, was wearing a GPS device, torch and a small camera.
According to an anonymous experience dog handler who has worked in Afghanistan, the dog is Belgian shepherd.
He explained about the dog, “You see the ears? They are down, that tells you that the dog is not aggressive and just wants to feel safe. Right now the dog is terrified.”
“Coalition forces have long used sniffer and protection dogs in Afghanistan, mostly German shepherds, Labradors or spaniels,” BBC confirmed.
