KARACHI – Imran Khan, Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) chairman, is under immense pressure these days as he is criticized from all circles for backing off from the Taliban committee for dialogues.
Khan has always been the biggest supporter of sorting out the issue with Taliban through dialogues but when it came to act upon his words, Khan did not have the courage to commit.
After consulting with his party in a meeting, Imran Khan announced not to be the part of Taliban committee.
Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Fazl (JUI-F) also followed Khan’s step and Maulana Fazl ur Rahman took an even bigger decision by separating the party from peace talks with Taliban. Their verdict of course halted Mufti Kafayatullah to participate in Taliban committee.
Nobody expected Khan to back off and that is the reason he is still getting messages from all circles to take back his decision and join the Taliban committee.
Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) was the first one to ask him. MQM Rabita Committee demanded Imran Khan to take back his pronouncement regarding not to be in Taliban committee.
Even Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif could not hide his irritation as he said today. “It’s beyond my understanding why Imran Khan refused to be inducted in Taliban committee”
These demands and subtle criticism are not limited to political parties but civil society also requested Khan to reconsider his choice.
Today, Members of Civil Society demonstrated at Karachi Press Club and asked Imran Khan to involve in dialogues with Taliban.
Khan definitely has to answer these demands, requests and criticism. The question is how long he will ignore all these voices.
