ISLAMABAD: The Pakistani federal cabinet has taken decision to place dialogues with Taliban on first priority during a meeting held under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Mian Nawaz Sharif on Monday (today).
PM Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif has said that extraordinary steps were needed in extraordinary situation, adding the government would take all necessary measures to wipe out the menace of terrorism from the country.
He said that the giant of terrorism is becoming out of control it would be packed in bottle again, adding the provision of justice and peace is the responsibility of the government.
Meanwhile, the matter of approval of the new security policy was deferred for inclusion of more suggestions of the members of the cabinet.
The cabinet decided to hold dialogues with the Taliban as first priority but the other options would be used if the dialogues were failed.
The cabinet also mulled over summoning all parties conference over the current situation of the country.
Meeting of the federal cabinet was held under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Mian Nawaz Sharif on Monday to review the new security policy of the country.
Giving a thorough briefing about the new security policy of the country in the special cabinet meeting, Interior Minister, Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan said that a high-tech mechanism for exchange of intelligence information under the supervision of Anti-Terrorism Authority would be set up.
The interior minister also briefed about the process of talks with the Taliban. The interior minister briefed the cabinet about the new security policy.
The meeting strongly condemned the blasts in Rawalpindi and Bannu and decided that the provision of most modern weapons and training to the personnel of law enforcing agencies would be ensured besides a comprehensive policy would be prepared for stemming the sources of finance to the terrorist outfits and covert surveillance of the extremists and undesirable elements.
Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif while addressing the meeting expressed the resolve to establish supremacy of law in the country at any costs.
He said all state institutions will have to play their role to eliminate terrorism and hold criminals accountable. He said supremacy of law is inevitable for establishment of a society based on justice and equality.
The Prime Minister stressed to make the borders management system more effective. He said the government will not compromise on principles.
Nawaz Sharif the cabinet will continue debate on internal security policy in its next meeting. He said extraordinary steps needs to be taken in unusual circumstances. He said national interest is supreme when comes to matters of national security and economy. He said Pakistan can achieve the goal of development and prosperity by establishing peace. He said the country has enough potential to progress despite negative propaganda.
The Prime Minister also stressed the interior and law ministries to ensure quick implementation of Protection of Pakistan Ordinance 2013.
He also lauded the sacrifices rendered by civilians, armed forces and media in fighting war against terror.
He said that the country’s survival depends upon efforts to root out terrorism.

Nawaz Sharif said the cabinet will continue to debate on internal security policy in its next meeting. He said that all options are opened for the government but the government wants to resolve the issue through dialogues.
The meeting discussed in detail the proposed national security policy and agreed to hold further deliberations in the next meeting of the cabinet.
A spokesman of the federal interior ministry said that the federal cabinet has approved the policy in principle, adding it will be finalized in subsequent meetings of the cabinet. According to spokesman the interior minister left for Bannu to visit the injured of Sunday attack. The media briefing of the interior minister scheduled for Monday was postponed.
The cabinet weighed options of holding dialogues and launching full-fledged operation against the militants.
But it was agreed that dialogues should be given the preference. It also discussed the option of convening another all parties’ conference to evolve consensus on the issue. It was decided in the meeting that the extra-ordinary steps would be taken for regarding the current situation of the country. According to a private TV channel the members of the federal cabinet had shown some reservations regarding the security policy and requested the prime minister to include their suggestions. Prime minister asked the interior minister to include the suggestions of the members of the cabinet. The draft of the new security policy would be tabled in next meeting of the cabinet for approval.
