ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan’s Foreign Office Spokesperson Tasnim Aslam on Friday has clarified the agenda of the Saudi Arabian Foreign Minister’s scheduled visit to Pakistan which have no connections with issue of ex-President Pervez Musharraf.
Pakistan FO said that issue of former President Pervez Musharraf is domestic and external world should have no concerns over it.
Foreign Office Spokesperson Tasnim Aslam in her weekly briefing in Islamabad on Friday said Prince Saud Al Faisl who is scheduled to travel Islamabad on a two-day visit next week, is a regular and routine one.
She said the visit was scheduled during Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif’s visit to United Nations General Assembly meeting in New York.
The spokesperson said the Saudi Foreign Minister will hold important talks with Pakistani leadership on various bilateral, regional and international issues during his two day stay.
She said similarly UAE President Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan is also in Pakistan on a privet visit for haunting.
She said both the visits have no link with the issue of former President Pervez Musharraf, which is purely Pakistan’s internal matter.
To a question, Tasnim Aslam said Pakistan stance on US drone attacks has not changed. She said drones are unacceptable, which violate Pakistan’s sovereignty and integrity.
The spokesperson to a question regarding US drawdown said Pakistan will continue its sincere efforts for the success of Afghan reconciliation process and establish peace in the region. She said Pakistan earlier facilitated a meeting of Afghan officials with Mulla Baradar and is ready to further facilitate in this regard.
She said any instability in Afghanistan sheds direct impacts on Pakistan. She hoped year 2014 will be proven as year of peace, stability and elections for Afghanistan. She said Afghanistan is a sovereign country and every right to take its decisions. She said focus of our foreign policy is economic development of region and to bring peace.
Regarding Afghan trade, the spokesperson said sovereign states enjoy right to chose trade routes. She said Pakistan, taking care of Afghanistan being a landlocked country, has been providing its route for trade purposes.
Answering a question about winding up foreign missions, Tasnim Aslam said the Prime Minister constituted a committee to prepare recommendations for curtailing expenditures of Pakistani mission abroad. She told that on the consensus recommendation of the committee, Pakistani missions in Chile and Ireland have been closed, while rationalization has been done in some other foreign missions.
Regarding Pakistan-India ties, Tasnim Aslam said that Pakistan wants to restore dialogue process with India at the earliest for sustainable engagements. She said a mechanism is already in place for this.
On the issue of transnational criminal movement on Pakistan-Iran border, she said both the countries have various channels and mechanisms to avoid such activities, which are against both countries interests.
