WASHINGTON: The Pakistan’s newly appointed ambassador to the United States, Jalil Abbas Jilani, has took charge of his post after reaching Washington on Sunday (today).
Jilani will begin assignment and lead diplomatic efforts towards improvement in relations between the two countries.
Until his appointment as Islamabad’s Ambassador in Washington this month Jilani was serving as foreign secretary of Pakistan as the country’s top career diplomat.
Previously, Jilani served as diplomat at the Pakistani embassy in Washington from 1995 to 1999. Ambassador Jilani’s previous assignments include Deputy High Commissioner in New Delhi from 1999 to 2003 and Ambassador to the European Union and Australia.
