KARACHI: At least six people, including a policeman, were killed in violence in different areas of Karachi on Saturday.
According to police, a head constable identified as Mohammad Shah was shot dead in Safoora.
Two bodies of a man and woman with marks of torture were found from a house situated in Saeedabad. They were later identified as Najeebullah and Saira. Their bodies were shifted to Civil Hospital.
A woman was also found dead in the city. The sources said that she committed suicide.
Two students of the Karachi University (KU) were shot dead near Maskan Chowrangi, Gulshan-i-Iqbal of the city.
According to police, the students Shadab Hussain, 27, and his friend, Hamza Naushad, 27, were killed when unidentified gunmen opened fire on them last evening. Shadab was resident of Ancholi while Hamza of Abul Isphani Road.
The victims were taken to a nearby hospital but they could not survive. Their bodies were shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for legal formalities.
Meanwhile, police and Rangers continued arresting suspects allegedly involved in numerous crimes from different areas of the city.
SIU Police arrested eight criminals, involved in target killing, extortion and other crimes.
Rangers arrested as many as 20 more suspected people from the parts of Karachi.
On the other hand, police claimed to have arrested three accused including two target killers and an extortionist from different areas of Karachi.
Addressing a press conference, DIG CIA Sultan Khawaja said arrested target killers and extortionist belong to MQM. They have been identified as Kashif Nafees and Kamran Langra., he said.
The police officer said the accused were involved in the killing of workers of People’s Party, Awami National Party (ANP) and others.
DIG CIA said the arrested extortionist used to send extortion slips to doctors and traders through courier, adding two aides of the accused were still at large.
