Islamabad: After admitting from police of its failure in containing violence in Rawalpindi on 10th of Muharram, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has directed to ascertain people for criminal negligence.
Chairing a high-level meeting on law and order in Islamabad this evening, he viewed that police should have taken preemtive action to prevent such tragic incident.
Khan Baig, Inspector General of Punjab Police, informed that meeting that casualties were caused due to arms dispelling all other rumours.
In a detailed presentation over the incident, he claimed that 11 people were killed and 56 were injured.
“Nine perpetrators involved in this incident have been apprehended after their identification with the aid of video footage obtained from media organizations,” he further revealed.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has convened a high level meeting in Islamabad to review law and order situation in the country.
According to details, Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar, Information Minister Pervez Rasheed, Director General Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) Lt Gen Zaheerul Islam, Punjab Home Secretary and others would attend the meeting.
The sources said that the meeting would also review recent incident in Rawalpindi and discuss measures to avert such tragedies in the future.
It is to be mentioned here that the PM had returned yesterday after completing his long official visits to different countries, which the prime minister has termed to have been more fruitful than he expected.
