ISLAMABAD: Pakistan government has constituted a special court, headed by the country’s Sindh High Court’s judge Justice Faisal Arab, to hear treason charges against former military ruler Pervez Musharraf.
Sources said that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, soon after returning from a foreign visit, approved three high courts judges for the special court, adding that the special court will be headed by Justice Faisal Arab of the Sindh High Court and comprise Balochistan High Court’s judge Justice Tahira Safdar and Lahore High Court’s Justice Mohammad Yawar Ali Khan.
“It will work in the Islamabad High Court building.”
It is for the first time in Pakistan’s history that a former army chief is being tried under Article 6 of the constitution.
On Monday, Ministry of Law and Justice Secretary Zafarullah Khan submitted a letter to the Supreme Court registrar for the constitution of the special court under the Criminal Law Amendment (special courts) Act 1976.
