WASHINGTON: The United States government confessed that it was eying dialogue between Pakistan and Taliban. The State Department official said that it would be Islamabad to define negotiations independently.
While talking to media at the State Department, the official said that it would be Pakistan who will outline negotiation rather than the US.
Jen Psaki, the department’s spokesperson stated, “We are, of course, following it closely as you would expect … but this is an internal matter for Pakistan”.
She said that US would likely to get involved in a discussion rather than the dialogue between the two parties.
She further said, “We will see how things proceed (as) … we have a shared interest with Pakistan to end violence and bring peace and prosperity to the entire region”.
She further added, “the United States was interested in ‘the talks, their scope and the outcome’ but would refrain from defining them for Pakistan”.
She said that the US also acknowledges peace talks between Afghan government and Afghan Taliban. She said that military dispute is not a part of solution.
