LAHORE: The Pakistan’s government is thinking to appoint Chief of Naval Staff, Admiral Asif Sandila, on the vacant post of the Chairman Joint Chief of Staff Committee, one of the top most military post in armed forces.
The Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has got suggestions from senior leadership of his political party, Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) during a high-level meeting on Monday.
PML-N leadership has suggested the PM to complete legal work for Admiral Asif Sandila’s appointment on the CJCSC post, party sources said.
Following retirement periods of top military leadership in Pakistan including the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) and the Chairman Joint Chief of Staff Committee (CJCSC), PM Nawaz Sharif is holding meeting with top leadership of his political party today.
It should be mentioned that CJCSC General Khalid Shameem Wynne and COAS General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani has completed their tenure in armed forces on October 7 and November 28 respectively.
Earlier, the Pakistani government had announced the criteria for appointments on top military posts in accordance to seniority basis.
Lieutenant General Haroon Aslam, Lt-Gen Rashad Mahmood and Admiral Asif Sandila are amongst the powerful candidates for filling in the vacant posts following the retirement of CJCSC General Shameem and COAS General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani.
