LAHORE: The Pakistan’s federal government has decided reduction in train fares up to 25 per cent and the Pakistan Railways’ planned for continuing 4 special trains on forthcoming event of Eid-ul-Adha 2013.
Pakistan Railways’ minister, Khawaja Saad Rafique, said that the federal government aimed to gain confidence of passengers as well as taking concrete decisions for making the department into a profitable organisation.
While talking with media in Lahore, Rafique unveiled that the fares of Karachi bound Air Conditioned (AC) Business class is Rs4000, which will be decreased to Rs3000, same as rates of Sleeper class will also be downsized following a formal notification expected in next week.
Meanwhile, Pakistan Railways’ General Manager Anjum Pervaiz said that final decision for the reduction is still due as fares has already been decreased, however, if we felt the need of another rates’ downsizing then the matter will be considered on October 7-8.
Insider sources revealed that Railways fares will be decreased up to 15-20 per cent in few days which will make the AC business class fares to Rs3000 and AC Sleeper to Rs4000.
On the other hand, GM Railways told the media that Peshawar to Lahore bound four special trains will be continued on upcoming Eid festival.
Moreover, Railways’ officials decided to increase security measures on the event via deployment of 3 to 4 additional police personnels in express trains.
