SRI NAGAR: The Indian Army have claimed to kill all three attackers on Thursday who were involved in attacking, killing of at least 12 people earlier this morning, including army personnel and policemen in Jammu and Kashmir.
According to Indian media, Lt Gen Gurmeet Singh told reporters that all three terrorists involved in the twin terror attacks in Jammu region, were gunned down.
Police officer in Jammu and Kashmir describes, “The attackers entered the police station, killed four police personnel on the spot and injured four others. The attackers also killed a shopkeeper and took away a truck from inside the police station”.
“The attackers killed the driver of the truck and forced the helper of the truck to drive it. They travelled around 18 km from Hira Nagar in the stolen truck on the Pathankot-Jammu highway after which they entered the army officers’ mess of Samba Brigade,” said the police official.
“Once inside the officers’ mess, the attackers killed four army personnel, including a lieutenant colonel Bikram Jeet and three others. The attackers were engaged in a sustained gunfight by army soldiers inside the mess”, the official said.
Singh condemned the terrorist attack and said such acts by the “enemies of peace” would not succeed in “derailing the efforts to find a resolution to all problems through a process of dialogue.”
The Jammu and Kashmir chief minister, Omar Abdullah told reporters in Srinagar that the armed men who carried out the terror strike had entered India 12 hours before they struck at the police station.
He said the attack was carried out with the objective to derail the forthcoming meeting between Manmohan Singh and Nawaz Sharif in New York.
According to Indian media, local militant organization, Shohada Brigade, has claimed the responsibility for the twin terror attacks in Jammu and Kashmir and said the attack was carried out by its local cadre.
Indian Police claimed that the organisation is a front of Hizbul Mujahideen outfit. The brigade was in news for recently issuing threats to the people not to attend the recently held Zubin Mehta musical concert.
