YouTube ban: Pakistan fails to block blasphemous content even after a year

Youtube1

KARACHI: A year down the road since Pakistan blocked YouTube over controversial content, the video sharing website is still not accessible in the country.

It was September 17 when then Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf ordered the information ministry to block the world’s largest videos sharing website in the country.

The PM had imposed the ban after YouTube refused to heed to the advice of the Pakistan government to remove Innocence of the Muslims from the website, a film that was considered blasphemous.

Pakistan is among the countries including China, Iran and Turkmenistan where the YouTube is banned nationally. The YouTube is also mostly blocked in Germany from YouTube’s side due to disputes between GEMA and YouTube over royalties.
