With universities from United States, United Kingdom and European countries lead in top universities ranking, only one university of Pakistan gets space in top 500 universities of the world.
National University of Science of Technology (NUST) is the only university which has shown excellence in QS World University Rankings – the most widely read university comparison of their kind.
NUST got the space in ranking from 481-490 ranking spot while three other universities including University of Engineering and Technology, Karachi University and University of Lahore have got 701+ rankings.
Top 10 universities of the world include Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Harvard University, Cambridge University, University College London, Imperial College London, University of Oxford, Stanford University, Yale University, University of Chicago, California Institute of Technology.
Following criteria was adopted for the ranking:
40% ACADEMIC REPUTATION from global survey
10% EMPLOYER REPUTATION from global survey
20% FACULTY STUDENT Ratio
20% CITATIONS PER FACULTY from Scopus
5% Proportion of INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS
5% Proportion of INTERNATIONAL FACULTY
However overall poor performance from the Pakistan universities should set the alert bell ringing in the cold corridors of the high official bodies and education bureaucracy.
Higher Education Commission of Pakistan, who is responsible for uplift of university level education in the country, officials might be worry over the ranking as only one university is in top 500 universities.
