TEHRAN: Deputy chief of staff of Iran’s armed forces Massoud Jazayeri has threatened United States of America on Sunday with ‘severe consequences’ over intervening Syria civil war.
Massoud Jazayeri said, ‘America knows the limitation of the red line of the Syrian front and any crossing of Syria’s red line will have severe consequences for the White House.’
The warning came after Barack Obama pledged a serious response if Bashar Assad regime is proved to have used chemical weapons.
Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel have said on Sunday that the US military was ready to take action against the Syrian regime if ordered, but stressed that Washington was still evaluating claims of a chemical weapons attack.
It is pertinent to note, Syria’s main opposition group accused the government of “massacring” more than 1,300 people including hundreds of women and children in chemical weapons attacks near Damascus, as the UN Security Council called for “clarity” and expressed “strong concern” over the allegations.
Medecins Sans Frontieres says hospitals it supports in Syria treated about 3,600 patients with “neurotoxic symptoms”, of whom 355 have died.
The medical charity said the patients had arrived in three hospitals in the Damascus area on 21 August – when opposition activists say chemical attacks were launched against rebels.
The United Nations says more than 100,000 people have been killed in the Syrian uprising.
Earlier, Tehran expressed the believes that the alleged gas attack in Ghouta, an eastern suburb of Damascus, was carried out by rebel forces as Iran’s foreign ministry spokesman Abbas Araqchi claimed that there are evidences that the action was carried out by Syria rebels.
Araqchi claimed, “The concurrence of the use of these weapons with the presence of UN inspectors is itself an indication that there are hands at work to accuse the Syrian government of using these weapons and help the conflict and crisis to continue.”
He also warned military action in Syria as Bashar al Assad’s regime was accused by Western leaders of massacring 1,300 people with chemical weapons.
