KARACHI: Amid a stiff resistance within his party over u-turn of previous party stance on Muttahida Qaumi Movement, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif arrives in Karachi, the port city of the country.
Just after reaching to the country’s largest city, Nawaz reached the tomb of Pakistan movement leader Quaid e Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah on a helicopter.
However, it was not clear that he reached the tomb by helicopter due to security reasons or for any untold reason.
This was his first visit to Karachi after being elected as the prime minister.
Pakistan Peoples Party backed Sindh chief minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah and MQM affiliated governor Dr. Ishratul Ibad Khan accompanied the premier.
Nawaz is likely to review law and order situation in the city besides meeting with Pir Pagara, head of his ally party PML-Functional.
Talking with media, the premier termed smooth democratic transition a good omen for the country.
“With all such terrorism, extremism and violence, its a good news that Pakistan is now on democratic path,” he further said.
To a query on Karachi lawlessness, Nawaz said that several meetings had been held on security issues and it would take some time to form a coordinated policy.
“Terrorism is in every province and I have talked to chief ministers to devise the counter terrorism policy.”
