ISLAMABAD: As date gets near for the contest, Election Commission has accepted the nomination papers of Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz and Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI) candidate.
According to officials, Pakistan Peoples Party candidate Raza did not appear before the commission as they were undecided about participation in the presidential election till filing of this report.
From PML-N, former governor Mamnoon Hussain while from PTI, former judge Justice (Retd) Wajihuddin Ahmed has been contesting for the post.
“Chief Election Commissioner Fakhruddin G. Ebrahim is scrutinizing the nomination papers as presiding officer. His decision regarding the acceptance or rejection of papers will be final,” state media reported.
Mamnoon is said to have support of around 321 candidates from all provincial assemblies, national assembly and senate of the country. So he is likely to sweep the contest comprehensively.
The elections are due on July 30 from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm in the parliament and in the provincial assemblies.
During the scrutiny, CEC rejects objection on candidacy of the PML-N candidate that he does not wear beard.
