ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s foreign Office on Wednesday condemned the latest US drone strike took place in North Waziristan tribal area of the country.
At least 18 people were killed and two others injured in the drone attack which targeted a house in North Waziristan’s Miramshah town late on Tuesday night.
Hours after the strike, Pakistani Foreign Office issued a statement saying drone strikes were a violation of Pakistan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, adding that Pakistan has repeatedly emphasised the importance of bringing an immediate end to these.
The government “has consistently maintained that drone strikes are counter-productive, entail loss of innocent civilian lives and have human rights and humanitarian implications”, the statement said.
It further said that the attacks had a negative impact on the “mutual desire” of both countries to forge “a cordial and cooperative relationship and to ensure peace and stability in the region”.
The recent drone attack was the biggest launched this year and the second since newly elected PML-n government following the party vistory in May 11 general elections.
