ISLAMABAD: Communication projects between Pakistan and China such as those of Railways and Silk Road are the reasons why foreign tourists including Chinese have been killed in Diamer.
Highly informed sources in Islamabad told TheNewsTribe.com that the killings were aimed at thwarting Pakistan’s plans to boost its regional ties because these had implications for major powers.
A source well versed in Pakistan’s security matters told TheNewsTribe on the condition of anonymity that Pakistan’s plans to extend the Silk Road and Railway network—which come on the heels of handing over of Gwadar Port’s management to  the world’s second largest economy—have disquieted the major powers, who look at Sino-Pak ties with suspicion.
Prominent columnist Nazir Naji has said that efforts are being made to activate non-state actors in the areas bordering China in the same fashion as has been done in Balochistan and Waziristan.
The northern areas have previously suffered a lot due to Shia-Sunni sectarian clashes.
Analysts say that both governments need to strengthen their intelligence sharing.
The newly-elected Nawaz government has proposed linking northern areas to Karachi and Gwadar Port.
It is pertinent to mention here that it is economical for China to use Karachi and Gwadar ports instead of its own parts for some of its very important projects. The two ports provide China logistical advantage.
Pakistan’s eastern neighbour India also wants to have a road like the Silk Road, but it needs to  capture some of Pakistan’s territory to realise this dream.
“There has always been American involvement behind attacks on Chinese in Pakistan” says prominent Pakistani journalist Naji during his program on Pakistan’s state television PTV.
China is assisting Pakistan in a large number of its development projects, not only through its manpower but also financially.
Pakistan’s government plans to build a large dam in Diamer, which will help reduce the country’s power shortage.
