ISLAMABAD: 18 independent members of Pakistan’s National Assembly (NA) have decided to begin their political journey with Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) as they showed complete confidence on the leadership of PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif.
PML-N’s political influences over upcoming government boosted up after the addition of independent national assembly members from different provinces of Pakistan include 12 from Punjab, 4 from Balochistan, 1 from Sindh and 1 from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The addition raised the number of PML-N general seats up to 118.
After getting the 32 women reserved seats and 5 from the section of minorities, the total figure of PML-N’s seats will be 181, which is sufficient to be considered as formal majority of the party in national assemblies around country.
It is pertinent to be noted, PML-N needs the confidence of minimum 172 members out of 342 elected members.
According to Election Commission Pakistan (ECP), 32 national assembly members had joined PML-N while 6 from Balochistan, 1 from KPK and 2 from Sindh had decided to start their political journey with them.
On the other hand, 9 of independent elected members had joined Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI).
