ISLAMABAD: Several political parties in Pakistan have earned millions of rupees through allotting party tickets to candidates for general election scheduled to be held on May 11, a report said on Wednesday.
The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), which claims itself a representative of poor and middle class society, is leading with Rs370 million rupees earning. The Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) has earned Rs240 million and the Pakistan Muslim League Quaid (PML-Q) earned Rs130 million, Imran Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has made Rs100 million rupees through selling their party tickets.
“Thousands of candidates submitted their forms for the party tickets along with bank drafts when political parties sought application,” a local news agency Online reported.
“The PML-N received 1500 application for the National Assembly and 4000 for the Provincial Assemblies (PA) while 325 candidates filed applications for reserved seats,” the report said and added that the PML-N took Rs75,000 bank draft with each of 50 NA seats, 30 PA seats and reserved seats.
The PML-Q received 1412 application for the NA and 2556 for the PA seats and grabbed Rs130 million.
The report further said that the emerging PTI set Rs30,000 fee for the NA seat and Rs20,000 for the PA seat and collected Rs100 million through the allotment.
Around 16973 applications were filed to the PPP and it acquired Rs370 million.
Surprisingly, the report did not mention any religious party.
