Rawalpindi: Pakistan Army Chief General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani visited Quetta on Wednesday and held meetings with Governor Balochistan Nawab Zulfiqar Ali Magsi and caretaker Chief Minister, Nawab Ghous Baksh Barozai, Inter Services Public Relation (ISPR) said on Thursday.
The ISPR said that the security situation and smooth conduct of upcoming general elections were discussed in the meetings.
The Chief of Army Staff (COAS) reiterated Pak Army’s commitment to extend all possible assistance to the Election Commission of Pakistan for holding free, fair and peaceful elections.
“The Provincial leadership was assured by COAS that Army will wholeheartedly welcome an all inclusive elections. COAS emphasized the need for participation by all political parties in the May elections. Army is prepared to extend all necessary support in this regard,” the statement added.
Earlier, Lieutenant General Muhammad Alam Khattak, Commander of the Southern Command, briefed the COAS regarding security situation and development projects being undertaken by the Army in Balochistan.
