Karachi: In what appears to be a rare move in Pakistan, a member of Pakistan’s transgender community filed her nomination papers to contest the country’s forthcoming elections from Karachi.
Pakistan is all set to hold general election on May 11 this year.
In 2012, the community celebrated their most precious victory when they were allowed for the first time to register to vote, identifying themselves as a third sex — transgender.
Bindya Rani, a transgender citizen — also known here as eunuchs or hijra — arrived here in the city court in the metropolis and filed her nomination papers.
She said she would contest polls on provincial Sindh assembly seat PS-115.
