Lahore: After the completion of survey, the reconstruction work of the houses torched by mob in Lahore’s Joseph Colony was started on Sunday.
According to The News Tribe Urdu, the destruction of affected houses have also been started by using heavy machinery.
Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif also visited the colony and met with the victims while the provincial law minister Rana Sanaullah is also present in the area to supervise the rescue work.
The victims would also be provided with the relief cheques of worth Rs200,000 each while the government has also that it will bear all the expenses of rebuilding the houses.
Noorul Amin Mengal, the DCO Lahore, also visited the colony on early Sunday morning and ensured complete support to the victims.
The DCO said that the government would distribute Rs200,000 cheques among each family in the evening while beds would also given to the victims.
The Pakistani Christian community staged protests across the country against ransacking and burning of more than 150 houses in Joseph Town on Saturday.
Protestors chanted slogans against the provincial government, administration and police and pelted the police with stones in Lahore’s different area.
The angry protestors damaged public property and clashed with the police and also caused severe traffic jam. The demonstrators also damaged the Lahore Metro Bus stop at Youhanaabad area during the protest.
The community also staged protest in other cities of the province while the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) staged a huge protest rally at Karachi Press Club (KPC) against the incident.
The MQM leaders condemned the incident and said that they would standby with community. They demanded the provincial government to arrest the element behind the incident.
Meanwhile, the police raided in several areas of the cities and outskirts and nabbed over 100 people allegedly involved in the incident. The police said that they held the accused with the help of CCTV footages and pictures.
Moreover, the Christians who took out a rally from Karachi’s Numaish Chowrang to the KPC, also clashed with the police in Saddar’s, the city center, Electronics Market.
The protestors accused the police of firing teargas shells on them. However, the police claimed they fired teargas shells when miscreants tried to damage public property and loot the shops the surrounding markets.
