Islamabad: Pakistan’s upper house of the parliament, Senate, on Wednesday approved the bill for the formation of new provinces in Punjab, the biggest province of Pakistan.
The 24th amendment bill, which was tabled by Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader Farooq H.Naek, was approved in the assembly with an overwhelming majority.
The bill was supported by PPP, Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q), Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), Awami National Party (ANP), Balochistan National Party (BNP-Awami) and FATA members. 70 votes were cast in favour of the bill.
On the other hand, no vote was cast against the bill as Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) staged a walkout against the tabling of the bill.
