Islamabad: The acting Chairman of National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) Habib ullah Khilji has resigned from his post.
According to sources in NEPRA, Habib ullah Khilji, who was appointed as acting chairman three months before, has sent his resignation to the cabinet division.
Earlier, Ghiasuddin Ahmad was the acting chairman of the regulatory.
It is to be mentioned here that NEPRA was heavily criticized from different sectors of the society for its failure to avoid almost countrywide blackout.
On February 24, Pakistan was hit by a massive power outage after two major powerhouses tripped offline.
According to the Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA), the fault struck after the failure of HUBCO Power Plant, which knocked at least 1200 megawatts of power out of the system.
“After HUBCO broke down the system was first diverted to Tarbela and then to Mangla, but both of them tripped offline one after the other”, said a WAPDA spokesman.
