Karachi: Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Rabita Committee on Monday accepted an apology from provincial minister Pir Mazharul Haq over his remarks against establishment of a university in Hyderabad, second largest city of Pakistan’s Sindh province.
Ina statement issued on Monday, the coordination committee of the MQM said that said it was good that Pir Mazhar retracted from his statement and now they hope that he would approve a bill in the assembly for the establishment of a university in Hyderabad.
“Pir Mazhar will provide people of Hyderabad an opportunity to acquire better education, thus ending an injustice done with the people of the city during last several years,” the committee added.
Earlier during a seminar in Jamshoro University Pir Mazharul Haq had said that he will not allow anybody to set up any public sector university in Hyderabad. He had claimed that certain elements wanted to vilify and destroy Sindh University and some ‘senior individuals’ hatched conspiracies against the institution in the past.
But after Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM)’s strong reaction against the statement, the education minister said that he had not said anything against construction of the university in Hyderabad. Pir Mazhar said that he upgraded Sir Ziauddin, Baqai University and others after making legislation in Sindh Assembly.
The minister said that Hyderabad was his city and several graves of his ancestors were in Hyderabad. He added that one university would not be constructed in Hyderabad, but two or four universities would be constructed in the city.
