Pretoria: Pakistan were forced to follow after the team had been bowled out for 156 runs on day two of the third Test against South Africa at Centurion.
Despite difficult batting conditions, the hosts managed to score a total of 409 runs in their first innings.
After an opening partnership of 46 runs between Imran Farhat and Mohammad Hafeez, Pakistan’s batting line-up crumbled.
After Farhat (30) being dismissed by Vernon Philander on lbw, Hafeez (18) became the first test victim for South African debutant swing bowler Kyle Abott as he was caught at gully.
With the next ball Philander removed Azhar Ali (six) after his off-stump was knocked back by a ball that kept low and took the edge of the bat.
Younus Khan and Misbahul Haq (10) advanced the score to 75 before the latter edged Abbott to Alviro Petersen at second slip and he pulled off an excellent low catch to his left.
Abott wound up Pakistan’s first innings with impressive figures of 11 overs, 33 runs and seven wickets.
Earlier, the Proteas played an extraordinary innings to make a huge total of 409 runs in their first innings.
AB de Villiers, who scored 121 runs, remained the top scorer from the South African side, accompanied by Hashim Amla 92 and Philander 74.
