Washington: Silicon Valley’s three most high-profile entrepreneurs—Google’s Sergey Brin, Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg along with venture capitalist Yuri Milner—are launching a new Foundation with designs on the Nobel Prizes.
As you can see on Zuckerberg’s facebook wall:
“Fortune favors the bold.” – Virgil, Aeneid X.284
“All children are artists. The problem is how to remain an artist once you grow up.” – Pablo Picasso
“Make things as simple as possible but no simpler.” – Albert Einstein
Those are the favourite quotes of Zuckerberg.
Seems he really believes in those quotes as he wrote on his wall:
“Our society needs more heroes who are scientists, researchers and engineers.
We need to celebrate and reward the people who cure diseases, expand our understanding of humanity and work to improve people’s lives.
That’s why Priscilla and I are honoured to partner with Sergey Brin, Anne Wojcicki, Art Levinson and Yuri Milner to create the Breakthrough Prize in Life Sciences.
At $3 million per prize, it’s the largest prize for this work in the world. I’m hopeful this serves as a blueprint for prizes and philanthropy in other fields as well.
Those prizes will be funded by the founders of Facebook and Google, along with technology investor.
The Breakthrough Prize—for curing the world’s most stubborn diseases and prolonging human life—by ‘Life Sciences Foundation’ will reward 11 annual prizes of $3 million each.
Milner said that young people would hopefully get the message that not only the careers in sports or entertainment can get a public recognition.
“We believe the Breakthrough Prize in Life Sciences has the potential to provide a platform for other models of philanthropy, so people everywhere have an opportunity at a better future,” said Zuckerberg.
