Islamabad: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader and Senator Raza Rabbani has said on Monday that a conspiracy to dissolve the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) and set up an unconstitutional caretaker government for the next two to three years is under way.
Speaking to reporters in Islamabad, he said an ECP member can only be removed through the process given in the Constitution.
Rabbani said that non-democratic forces wished to derail democracy in Pakistan and delay the election process.
He urged all democratic forces to unite against the ‘non-democratic forces’.
The Senator’s remarks came as the country is set to make its first transition from one civil government to another. The upcoming general election in the country is expected to be held in mid-May.
