London: UK Prime Minister David Cameron said on Sunday that three British nationals were confirmed dead after a hostage crisis in an Algerian remote gas field that left 23 foreigners and Algerians dead.
Cameron added that another three Britons were feared dead.
“Tragically we now know that three British nationals have been killed and a further three are believed to be dead and also a further British resident is also believed to be dead,” Cameron said in a televised statement.
Twenty-one hostages died during the siege that began when the Al-Qaeda-linked gunmen attacked the In Amenas facility deep in the Sahara desert at dawn on Wednesday, Algerian interior ministry said earlier in the day.
Thirty-two kidnappers were also killed, and special forces were able to free “685 Algerian workers and 107 foreigners”, it said.
