Washington: The United States (US) State Department on Tuesday supported the democratic system in Pakistan but said that the government should safeguard the right to protest peacefully.
Giving a routine press briefing at State Department, the spokesman Victoria Nuland said that the US was in continuous touch with Pakistan government over the current situation.
She said that the Supreme Court of Pakistan (SCP) verdict against Pakistan’s premier Raja Pervez Ashraf was the internal matter of the country.
The spokeswoman further said that the US was unbiased regarding the sit-in of Dr. Tahirul Qadri in Islamabad, a capital city of Pakistan but said that the problems should be resolved in accordance with the constitution of the country.
