New York: Pakistan Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar has said that India is “warmongering” over deadly clashes in disputed Kashmir but that the two sides had to hold peace talks.
“We see warmongering,” Khar said in New York.
“It is deeply disturbing to hear statements which are upping the ante” coming from Indian politicians, the minister added.
Pakistan’s military said Wednesday that one of its soldiers had “embraced martyrdom due to unprovoked Indian firing” at the Line of Control (LoC) — the de facto military border in divided Kashmir.
“The doors to dialogue are open,” she said. “We need to meet at any level, I think we need to call each other, we need to become mature countries which know how to handle their truth.”
Khar again denied Indian accusations that Pakistani forces had beheaded one of two soldiers that India says were killed on January 8. She said an inquiry had found “no evidence” of the deaths.
The latest attack took place on Tuesday night, according to the army statement, and is the fourth deadly incident reported this month.
Reports of the Pakistani soldier’s death came a day after India’s prime minister said there could be no “business as usual” with Pakistan.
