Lahore: The 32nd Pakistan National Games began in Lahore on Saturday after a standoff between Punjab Sports Board and Punjab Olympics Association nearly undermined the major event.
Lamp of the game was torched while entertainers and band felicitated players to the energizing event. Alizay Babar brought laurels for Sindh as she won first gold medal of the event for the province in the air-rifle shooting contest. Cycling and other sports were underway in the provincial capital till filing of this report.
The organizers had made extra effort to hold the event on their own as Punjab government didn’t support the event owing to a ‘legal issue’ involved in the matter.
The SBP held the stance that it could not support POA after a decision on the National Sports Policy of Supreme and High Courts. It also said that it had asked the body to delay the event till January next year to conduct it in a befitting manner.
