Doha: Pakistan beat Oman 8-3 in their first match of the 2012 Asian’s Men Hockey Champions Trophy.
Shakil Abbasi scored three goals, Waqas Shareef two, and Abdul Haseem, Mohammad Rizwan (senior) and Mohammad Imran scored one goal each.
The tournament, which would continue for eight days, comprises of top eight teams of the continent.
Six teams are taking part in the tournament: Pakistan, India, Oman, China, Malaysia and Japan.
Overall eighteen matches will be played between the teams, with final and the position matches to be played on December 27.
In the last event played in China, India defeated Pakistan in the final of the tournament. But now analysts are considering Pakistani as the most favourite nation to win the tournament as they had recently attained third position in the Hockey Champions Trophy.
Pakistan will play their next match against China on December 21.
