Lahore: Punjab Inspector General of Police Haji Habib-ur-Rehman has said that fake police encounters are illegal.
Addressing traders in provincial capital on Wednesday, the IG said that only six out of 350 encounters were proved fake in a judicial inquiry, adding that the responsible police officers and constables were given punishment.
“25 policemen and officers have also sacrificed their lives in the encounters,” he said. “Punjab is becoming a crime free province due to better planning.”
Rehman said that they were trying to improve law and order situation to attract foreign investment in the province. “Police’s duty is to protect the life of people.”
He termed the law enforcement agencies as blessing in the country saying law and order situation is gradually improving in the country.
