Manama: A Saudi columnist has severely criticized purchase of camels for 88 million Dirhams in the kingdom, terming it an extreme act of extravagance and wastage.
Sources said the columnist termed the deal intolerable act of vanity, adding those who ‘wasted this money must wake up to reality. He opined the money could have been spent on building 180 decent homes for the needy or spent as pensions for 13,000 families for a year.
Earlier, a Saudi daily had reported that 20 camels were sold for Riyal 90 million and three young camels for Riyal 15 million under a deal reached at an annual heritage festival in Um Ruqaiba, north east Saudi Arabia.
