New York: Forbes has issued its latest ranking list of world’s most powerful people, declaring United States President Barack Obama the most powerful man on Earth.
According to a new Forbes ranking issued on Wednesday, as many as six heads of state occupied the top 10 spots among the world’s most powerful people.
The annual list was crafted on factors ranging from wealth to global influence and said that these were the world’s 71 most-powerful people on the globe.
Obama was followed by three other head of states including German Chancellor Angela Merkel (2), Russian President Vladimir Putin (3), King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz al Saud of Saudi Arabia (7) and British Prime Minister David Cameron at no. 10.
Other high-ranking heads of state included French President Francois Hollande (14), Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh (19) and Iran’s Grand Ayatollah Ali Hoseini-Khamenei at No. 21.
Among highest-ranked businessman, Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates topped the list at No. 4, U.S. Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke clinched the sixth spot while European Central Bank President Mario Draghi got top 8.
Commenting on the list, Michael Noer, Forbes’ executive editor, told Reuters in an email, “this year’s list reflects the changing of the guard in the world’s two most powerful countries: the United States and China.”
Moreover, Pope Benedict XVI placed fifth in the rankings while another interesting placing came in front with 28-year-old Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg who was placed number 25.
The two Pakistanis who stood up in the list of 71 were Chief of Army Staff General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani and Director-General Inter-Services Intelligence (DG ISI) Lt. General Zaheer ul-Islam.
To create the rankings, Forbes editors graded candidates on four criteria for power and averaged the four grades:
— Power over many people
— Control over financial and other valuable resources
— Power in multiple spheres or arenas
— Active use of power
