Lahore: Karachi Dolphins opens its Faysal Bank T20 tournament account on Saturday with an emphatic win against Peshawar Panthers as they whipped the opponent by a hefty margin of 40 runs.
The second match of the first day of the tournament was played at Lahore City Cricket Association Ground.
Karachi Dolphins led by crowd stunner Shahid Afridi lost the toss and obliged to bat first set a sufficient target of 164 against Panthers captained by Gauhar Ali.
Dolphins set the target with the loss of seven wickets with skipper Shahid Afridi scoring a significant half century facing only 34 balls.
Dolphins struggled in the beginning as opener Khurran Manzoor was out first ball but Shahzaib Hasan and Khalid Latif cruised the team with an important 49 runs partnership.
Middle order batsman Asaf Shafiq and tail-ender Anwar Ali, with 21 and 27 also played a significant role to reach the team to a defendable total.
Waqar Ahmed was the pick of the bowler for Peshawar who took two for 28.
In reply, Peshawar Panthers got off to a similar start with opener  Mohammad Fayyaz losing his wicket at though Iftikhar Ahmed controlled the flow of the innings, scoring 57 of 47. Akhtar Badshah also played a handy knock but no other player performed well enough to make their team win.
Dolphins skipper Shahid Afridi got man of the match for his all round performance.
