Manipur, India: The women of Manipur, North-eastern state in India have demanded the creation of a separate state for Kuki community by carving out Kuki-inhabited areas in Manipur.
Hundred of women continued to protest for the sixth consecutive day and blocked the National Highway demanding the creation of a separate Kuki state.
The women protesters threatened the Federal government if their demands were not heard, the demonstrations would stretched for an indefinite period of time.
They held the view that other communities have separate states in the country whereas the Kuki community has been ignored.
However, the demand is being strongly opposed by other ethnic groups, making space for another conflict in a state known for its fragile ethnic divide.
