Sanaa: An al-Qaeda affiliated suicide bomber blew himself up in the pro-government militia office in the southern Yemini province of Zinjibar, killing three militiamen.
According to media reports, speaking on the condition of anonymity, the officials said that the attacker walked up to the checkpoint in the city of Zinjibar and detonated his explosives-laden vest on Friday. The city was under al-Qaida control for months until a military offensive reclaimed the territory earlier this year.
Local tribesmen formed militias and fought alongside the military in the government’s offensive against al-Qaida, uprooting the militants from the villages and towns in the south.
