Karachi: A powerful bomb exploded near Sachal Rangers Headquarters located in North Nazimabad Block B area of the metropolis, killing at least two Rangers personnel and injuring 24 others, on Thursday.
According to correspondent the incident took place when an explosives-laden van hit the gate No.03 of the Rangers headquarters. As a result, two Rangers men were killed while 24 others including 21 Rangers personnel and 3 policemen.
Sindh Police Chief Fayyaz Leghari said that this was a suicide blast, but further details were not available so far. He added that a mini truck had been used to deliver the explosives.
Police official said that around 150kg of explosives were used in the blast.
The blast smashed the glasses of Rangers Headquarters into pieces while a fire also broke out in one part of the building. Various walls of the headquarters also collapsed due to the explosion.
The blast was heard across the city as fear and panic gripped the citizens. The blast caused damaged to nearby buildings and shattered windows in the vicinity.
Two suspicious persons were also reportedly arrested from the immediate vicinity of the Rangers headquarters soon after the blast.
After the blast emergency services have reached the spot and are conducting a rescue operation. The area has been cordoned off by security officials. The injured people were shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where three are said to be in critical condition.
According to local media reports the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) has claimed the responsibility of the incident.
