Quetta: The Supreme Court of Pakistan on Monday ordered the government and the Frontier Corps (FC) to present missing persons of Balochistan forthwith.
“we order government and FC to produce missing persons as soon aspossible,” the SC said and added “we order law enforcement agencies to ensure protection of life and property of people under article 9 of the Constitution,”
The orders came during the hearing of a case pertaining to law and order situation and enforced disappearances in Balochistan. A three-judge bench headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhamamd Chaudhry was hearing the case in the Quetta registry of Supreme Court.
The CJ said that the government was not serious in implementing court orders regarding Balochistan law and order.” We asked for an end to Kabli vehicles and arms and death squads but nothing happened except lip service,” the CJ remarked.
The CJ further said that there were evidences against the FC and no missing person had been recovered “don’t force us to pass an order”.
Balochistan Assembly speaker Aslam Bhootani appeared before the court and conceded that nobody was happy over the situation in the province. He told the court that the IG police and chief secretary were upright men and were taking responsibilities for the failure of lawmakers.
The chief justice said that the honesty didn’t mean one would not deliver. Senior lawyers Munir A Malik, Salman Akram Raja, M Zafar and Hadi Shakeel also appeared before the bench and recorded their statements with regard to law and order situation in Balochistan.
A Balochistan National Party (BNP) leader told the court that trend of disappearing the people had changed to the killing as 15 people were killed during the last 15 days in Khuzdar.
