Karachi: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) has declared Monday a day of mourning over the deaths of workers who were killed after unidentified gunmen opened fire at the rally of Pakistan People’s Party led by MNA Nafeesa Shah, daughter of CM Sindh Qaim Ali Shah.
CM Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah sought immediate report from Inspector General of Police (IGP), Sindh, Commissioner Sukkur and DIG Sukkur, according to a statement issued by the Press Secretary to the CM.
Nafeesa escaped the attack while local PPP leaders and a journalist fell prey to the attack.
Authorities declared emergency in hospitals across Kahirpur, while the injured and bodies were shifted to Civil Hospital, Khairpur.
The police authorities cordoned off the area and started search operation in order to arrest the miscreants.
Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf condemned the incident and demanded authorities to probe the matter and immediately arrest the culprits. Interior Minister Rehman Malik ordered police officials to submit report on the incident.
MQM Chief Altaf Hussain also condemned the incident and demanded authorities to arrest the culprits.
