Damascus: A militant group linked to al-Qaeda Wednesday claimed responsibility for a series of deadly bombings in Syria’s largest city Aleppo, killing at least 40 people, mostly regime officers.
According to reports, the deadly blasts ripped through two hotels, a Syrian army officers’ club and a city administrative complex, killing at least 40 people and wounding more than 100.
The jihadi faction Jabhat al-Nusra formally claimed responsibility late Wednesday in a communiqué. The group said the operation involved at least two suicide bombers — identified as “Abu Hamza al-Shami” and “Abu Sulaiman al-Shami” — as well as three other attackers dressed as Syrian soldiers, who were identified as “Abu Anas al-Shami,”  “Abu Hafs al-Shami,” and “Abu Dujanah al-Shami.”
It is to be mentioned here that the rebels and government forces are engaged in a fierce battle in Aleppo, largest city of Syria. According to independent estimates, more than 27,000 people were killed in Syria after a popular uprising against president Bashar-al-Assad last year.
