Rawalpindi: Afghan Army delegation headed by Major General Afzal Aman, Director General Military Operations (DGMO) Afghan National Army visited General Headquarters for a bilateral meeting with his counterpart at General Headquarters Wednesday.
The meeting was on the invitation from Pakistan Army to discuss Pak-Afghan Border situation. The issue of alleged cross border Artillery fire by Pakistan into Afghanistan was discussed in detail.
Afghan delegation was briefed that problem stems from terrorists’ safe havens in Afghan provinces of Kuner and Nuristan, about which intelligence has been repeatedly shared with Afghan authorities.
Pakistan Army only fires when its border villages / posts are physically attacked by terrorists in a large number from said safe havens.
Todate 13 such cross border attacks have taken place with last being in Bajaur Agency on 23 August 2012. There is absolutely no possibility of indiscriminate fire by Pakistan Army on Afghan forces or civilians. Other border related issues also came under discussion.
Major General Ishfaq Nadeem Ahmad, DGMO Pakistan Army thanked the Afghan delegation for accepting the invitation for the meeting.
 Both sides agreed on continuation of such bilateral interactions which shall enhance the bilateral border coordination and reduce space for detractors.
He reiterated Pakistan’s national stance that peaceful, stable and united Afghanistan is in the interest of Pakistan.DGMO, Afghan Army thanked Pakistan Army for the invitation.
 He further agreed to the proposal of subsequent meetings.
