Rawalpindi: Chief of the Army Staff General Ashfaq Pervez Kayani on Thursday left for Russian on a historical visit.
Kayani is the first ever Pakistan army chief to visit Kremlin. He would meet Russian civil and military leadership. He was invited by his counterpart General Nikolai Makarov.
Kayani and Russian army chief would discuss on how to bolster bilateral relations between both the countries.
Kayani would pay visit to sensitive Russian military installations. Political experts dubbing the visit a breakthrough in cooperation between both the countries, say it could become beginning of a new era of Pak-Russian relations.
Pakistan’s relations with US saw ups and downs within the last 10 years as the latter kept pressuring Islamabad for do-more.
Pakistan has been desperately trying to strengthen ties with Russian in a bid to lessen its reliability on the United States.
